About the Young African Professional Fellowship

The Young African Professional Fellowship is one of the flagship programs of GAICAM for young Africans, designed to strengthen the capacities of young professionals for the world of work. It is an excellent journey of true professionalism where young professionals are equipped with highly essential professional skills for today’s workplace.

The program equally engages young professionals to share professional experiences and challenges, aimed at building their capacities for the world of work. The program highlights friendship, self-exploration, leadership development, collaboration, sustainable development goals, and youth empowerment.

Due to the increasing demand for digital skills in the world of work, the fellowship program has been structured to train and mentor participants on essential work-place digital skills that would boost their productivity and access in today’s highly digitalized workplace.

The program admits fellows between the ages of 18 and 40, selected from across Africa, to take part in the program. These are young people who are currently employed or are passionate about improving their professionalism in the world of work and productivity.

The program is structured to be held onsite (in-person) annually for the practicality of the program. Participants are selected from different parts of Africa to participate in the program in any host country. The 2024 edition of the Fellowship program has been scheduled to be held in the city of Buea, in the South West Region of Cameroon.

This edition of the program has been carefully structured into four phases in a 4-day intensive session. The first phase of the program will host an intensive professional training, where the fellows will be equipped with over 100 technical and professional skills. During this phase of the program, participants will have access to over 25 practical work documents. They will equally learn different digital workplace skills from professionals.

Phase two of the program will host two conferences, with one carefully structured for participants to share their professional experiences and challenges, aimed at building their capacities for the world of work. The second conference will host professionals from different fields to share their work experiences and help the young professionals gain insights and knowledge about the world of work.

Phase two of the Fellowship program is structured for field studies, where the participants are to participate in professional and industrial field visits to some relevant non-profit, public, and private sector organizations for a working session and to blend and improve their professional experience.

Fellowship professional and industrial field visits are very beneficial to the Fellows and provide substantive experience for the Fellows. The field visit is intended to provide Fellows with direct experience with the day-to-day workings of professionals and the opportunity to network, be recruited, or form professional relationships with employers.

The fourth and final phase of the program will feature the defense and cultural activities of the program. This last phase of the program is designed to allow the participants to practice their public speaking skills by defending what they have learned while participating in the program. During this phase of the program, the fellows will equally participate in some cultural activities aimed at promoting the cultural diversity of the program.
